As one of Canada's most comprehensive driver rehabilitation programs SE Health’s Driver Assessment and Training provides driver rehabilitation services for people with disabilities and medical conditions.  The driving instructor will provide assessment and training for clients with physical, cognitive and psychological disabilities under the supervision of an occupational therapist.


  • Assist Occupational Therapists to conduct in car assessments and training utilizing adaptive equipment when required

  • Deliver effective driving instruction to clients with disabilities

  • Prepare vehicles with adaptive equipment requirements and sustain vehicle maintenance schedules

  • Assist clients with MTO process

  • Document behind wheel performance and communication of same to Occupational Therapists

  • Effectively respond to client needs and concerns

  • Liaise regularly and effectively with team members


  • Certification as an Ontario Driving Instructor

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience as an in-vehicle instructor

  • Experience with modified vehicles and adaptive driving equipment is strongly preferred

  • Experience with senior drivers, DriveABLE or medical driving assessments is an asset.

  • MTO medical driving assessments and new drivers with learning disabilities is strongly desired.

  • A  valid Class G Ontario Driver Licence with an excellent driving record

  • Highly organized and motivated individual with exceptional problem solving skills

  • Excellent oral, written and interpersonal skills

  • Ability and flexibility to work in a fast paced, ever changing environment

  • Understanding of the needs of the elderly and clients with disabilities

  • Knowledge of driving with disabilities would be an asset.

  • OTA, PTA, rehabilitation service worker or adult education background is an asset
