Position Summary: As a key member of the SE Health clinical team at Taylor View towers,  the Registered Dietitian will work with resident to increase their health and wellness.  The suitable therapist will be able to work well independently and, within an interprofessional team focused on customer service focused, and have great people skills. Your passion is to use your caregiver knowledge, skill and judgment to provide integrated and holistic rehabilitation care to meet the physical, safety, emotional and spiritual needs of people of all ages and care needs.

Reporting to the Wellness Manager, the Dietitian provides high quality nutrition support to Long Term Care residents. The Dietitian is primarily responsible for nutrition and dysphagia assessments, and development and maintenance of a nutrition care plan for residents, considering the resident’s needs and values while using the best evidence available to make decisions. The Clinical Dietitian advocates for residents to ensure they receive optimal nutrition and hydration care by providing education to residents, families and staff as needed while participating or initiating nutrition focused quality improvement/assurance activities.

Responsibilities

  • Completes nutrition and/or dysphagia assessments of residents or clients as required
  • Communicates changes in nutrition goals, diets and treatment to appropriate decision with interdisciplinary care partner team
  • Contributes to the collaborative process by participating in the admission/discharge process and care conferences
  • Identifies, adopts and provides input into best practice standards for nutritional care
  • Advocates for residents to ensure they receive optimal nutrition and hydration care by initiating and participating in quality improvement activities
  • Provides individual and group nutrition education and in-services to staff and residents as required

Requirements

  • Completion of Bachelor of Science degree with a major in Foods and Nutrition
  • Current registration with College of Dietitians of Alberta (CDA)
  • Completion of an internship program or practicum training program accredited by the Dietitians of Canada
  • Health related work experience, primarily in the long-term care field Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Microsoft Office skills (Word, Excel)
  • Sound clinical nutrition knowledge and skills in areas relevant to eldercare
  • Strong interpersonal skills with an ability to deal effectively with conflict in a diplomatic and professional manner
  • Adept at written and oral communication with internal and external stakeholders
  • Exhibit an open and sincere approach by demonstrating respect and compassion for everyone equally
  • Excellent active listening skills
  • Demonstrate flexibility by changing routine to accommodate resident needs
  • High degree of independence, flexibility and commitment
  • Working knowledge of provincial legislative documents for complex care/long term care.
