Position Summary
The SE Research Centre conducts impact-oriented applied health services research to synthesize, generate, translate, adapt and directly apply scientific evidence in the design, delivery and evaluation of person and family-centered health and social care services.
The Research Associate plays a key role in advancing impactful applied research that informs real-world care. This position leads the coordination of scientific studies, including managing timelines, budgets and ethics submissions, while fostering an environment of collaboration across multidisciplinary teams. The Research Associate is responsible for implementing rigorous data collection and management practices, engages research participants using best practices in participatory research, supports analysis of quantitative and/or qualitative data, and contributes to interpretation of findings. Beyond research, in collaboration with the scientific team, the Research Associate contributes to a broad range of knowledge mobilization activities to share evidence generated with academic, practitioner and decision-maker audiences.
Position Responsibilities:
Project Management of Scientific Research Studies
- Lead development and management of research study project documentation used within the SE Research Centre, including project summaries, project plans, trackers and timelines, meeting agendas, and project budgets
- Manage flow of communication across study teams, including coordination and leadership of project meetings
- Manage Research Ethics Board submissions, amendments, renewals and closures in collaboration with Senior Research Associates/ Research Scientists
- Support Senior Research Associates/ Research Scientists in the development of study budgets; track all expenses against approved study budget(s)
Data Collection and Analysis
- Lead recruitment and informed consent process for SE Research Centre studies
- Support development of data collection tools in collaboration with Senior Research Associates and/or Research Scientists
- Collect qualitative and quantitative data using best methodological practices and according to approved REB research protocol
- Implement REB approved data management practices for organization, storage, and destruction of research data
- Implement data analysis activities with support from Research Fellows/ Research Scientists, including assistance with data interpretation
Knowledge Mobilization & Team Support
- Support the development and submission of conference abstracts, and support development and execution of presentations in a variety of formats to academic, practitioner and decision-maker audiences in collaboration with Senior Research Associates and/or Research Scientists
- Participate in the preparation and writing of a wide range of knowledge mobilization products including reports, project summaries, briefing notes, infographics, data visualizations, social media content and peer-reviewed publications, to support messaging and knowledge mobilization of study results to a wide range of audiences in collaboration with Research Fellows and/or Research Scientists
- Support SE Research Centre team initiatives to improve/ maintain collaboration, efficiency and engagement
Qualifications:
Basic Requirements
- Master’s degree in health services research related discipline from a recognized university
- A minimum of 2 years of experience working in Health Services Research, with a demonstrated ability to plan, coordinate, and/or manage scientific research studies
- Demonstrated ability to employ a wide range of data collection and analysis methods
- Strong oral and written communication skills, diplomacy and interpersonal skills
- Operates effectively both independently and as a collaborative contributor within multidisciplinary teams, navigating complex research environments and competing priorities.
- Maintains compliance with ethical standards by holding Tri-Council Policy Statement (2): Ethical Conduct of Research Involving Humans certification
Preferred Qualifications and Assets
- An understanding of the health sectors in Canada including hospital, home and community-based care
- Experience or interest in community-based and/or participatory research
- Experience with writing for various audiences, including academic publication
- Mentors and guides others in an academic or research settings to build capacity and foster growth
- Integrates equity considerations into research through completion of Gender-based Analysis Plus (GBA+) training
