POSITION SUMMARY
The Saint Elizabeth Foundation is seeking a talented Volunteer Services Coordinator to support and grow our volunteer services and social impact work at Journey Home Hospice Toronto.
If you are passionate about volunteer engagement, end-of-life care, and advancing equity for people facing homelessness, dying, and death, we would be delighted to hear from you. This role is ideal for someone who brings creativity, organizational skill, and compassion to their work. You will play a key part in growing our volunteer program, supporting patient services, and helping to expand wellness and outreach initiatives.
The position requires outstanding people management skills, diplomacy, attention to detail, and discretion regarding patient privacy and human resources. The Saint Elizabeth Foundation offers an engaging, interdisciplinary, and dynamic workspace where you will primarily work in a hybrid environment.
The Volunteer Services Coordinator will report jointly to the Manager of Volunteer Services and the Manager of Psychosocial, Wellness, and Outreach Services.
Journey Home Hospice Toronto: This is a Contract Position, November 1, 2025 – March 31, 2026.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Volunteer Program Development & Coordination
- Recruit, onboard, train, schedule, and supervise volunteers to support patient care, friendly visiting, wellness activities, administration, food services, and outreach.
- Identify and mentor volunteer leads to take responsibility for specific program areas.
- Create and manage a volunteer recognition plan to celebrate milestones and contributions.
Wellness & Patient Services Support
- Facilitate wellness programs by recruiting volunteers and community partners in areas such as gentle exercise, legacy work, art and music therapy, complementary therapies, and social activities.
- Support patient services and outreach programs, ensuring volunteers are effectively integrated into care and community engagement.
- Provide occasional hands-on support when volunteer coverage is unavailable.
Administrative & Program Support
- Assist with administrative functions, including supply ordering, vendor coordination, scheduling, and record-keeping.
- Support student interns and assist with non-clinical staff such as social workers, spiritual care providers, and therapists.
- Prepare reports and maintain accurate data on volunteer services, wellness programs, and outreach initiatives.
Community Engagement
- Represent Journey Home Hospice publicly, conducting tours for volunteers, donors, and community partners.
- Foster partnerships to strengthen wellness programs and outreach.
- Liaise with collaborators, service providers, and contractors as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum 5 years of experience in volunteer management, community organization, or wellness program coordination.
- Professional certification in volunteer, non-profit, or organizational management, or a related field preferred. Bachelor’s degree an asset. Equivalent education and experience considered.
- Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team setting.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word) and ability to learn new systems.
- Detail-oriented, flexible, and committed to equity, compassion, and excellence in end-of-life care.

The Volunteer Services Coordinator is expected to demonstrate professionalism through excellence in knowledge, judgement, and behavior. The role requires a high level of confidentiality, compassion, and sensitivity to the unique circumstances of hospice patients and families.
