POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

Activity A: Assessment

1) Reviews assessment information regularly as assigned by the Recreation Therapist.

2) May be assigned to obtain informed consent from the resident.

3) May be assigned to obtain social leisure history information.

4) Initiates reporting of pertinent information for assessment to the therapist.

 

Activity B: Planning

1) Demonstrates a clear understanding of the resident intervention plan to implement assigned group and individual programs.

2) Provides input to the Recreation Therapist regarding the resident’s intervention plan and potential adaptations.

3) Must be able to facilitate a broad range of leisure experiences that reflect a resident’s needs as outlined in the intervention plan.

4) Provides input into program development, contributes suggestions & ideas to complement the intervention plan.

 

Activity C: Implementation

1) Leads program in a timely, safe, and effective manner, employing risk management and infection control strategies.

2) Makes minor adaptations to program delivery and equipment for resident success as per agency policy.

3) Promotes a therapeutic environment.

4) Provides direction and guidance to volunteers and students when applicable.

 

Activity D: Evaluation

1) Administers assigned program and/or evaluation forms.

2) Collaborates in providing feedback to evaluate resident progress (e.g., resident participation, needs, behaviors)

3) Maintains good rapport with family members regarding resident participation, needs, concerns, and reports to the therapist.

 

Activity E: Documentation

1) Completes documentation in accordance with the organization’s standards in an accurate and professional manner.

2) Documents progress in the resident's health record as assigned.

3) Records program statistics or data.

 

Other Information:

Therapeutic Recreation & Community Practice

1)      Seeks, supports, and develops appropriate partnerships with a range of community service providers.

 

Communication

1) Communicates therapeutically with residents, families, and stakeholders, utilizing excellent skills in active listening, clarifying, and responding.

2) Demonstrates competence in using communication technology (e.g., email, telephone, Microsoft, iPad, Welbi) in service delivery.

 

Occupation Health & Safety

1) Understands and complies with agency Occupation and Health Safety process and protocols and seeks clarification or education when ensure of certain processes.

2) Reports any incidents appropriately, utilizing Incident Reports.

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

·        Must have a Recreation Therapy OR Health Care Aide certificate or diploma from an accredited school. Must have a Class 4 driver’s license.

·         1-3 years’ experience working with our senior population, either in Supportive Living or Long- term care settings.

·         Updated immunization record

·         A satisfactory Criminal Reference Check and Vulnerable Sector Check issued in the past 12 months.

·         Valid Standard First Aid and Level C CPR certificates.

·         Recent experience working with the elderly or disabled persons, preferably in a supportive living environment.

·         Demonstrate a compassionate, respectful, and sincere manner, with the ability to deal with conflict in a diplomatic and  professional manner.

·         Good oral and written communication skills (French language skills an asset).

·         Flexible and adaptable to a changing work environment.

·         Good computer skills.

 

This is a physically demanding position and requires hand, arm and shoulder dexterity, sensory ability, lifting to a maximum of approximately fifty-five (55) pounds, walking, standing, bending, reaching, and frequent movement.
