Job Summary:
The Payroll Analyst will play a critical role in supporting payroll testing and validation activities during the implementation of Workday Payroll and Time Tracking. This role requires hands-on involvement in end-to-end payroll test cycles, data validation, parallel runs, and issue resolution to ensure a successful and compliant transition from legacy systems to Workday.
The ideal candidate will have strong payroll operations experience in Workday, attention to detail, and the ability to collaborate effectively with HR, IT, and implementation partners.
Job Responsibilities:
Testing Execution
- Participate in end-to-end payroll testing, including functional, user acceptance, and parallel testing cycles.
- Execute payroll test cases to validate gross-to-net calculations, earnings and deductions, retroactive pay, taxes, and benefit deductions.
- Support validation of time tracking data integration into payroll, ensuring accurate time calculations and pay results
- Collaborate with implementation partners to identify, document, and resolve defects found during testing.
- Validate payroll configuration for accuracy, compliance, and adherence to company policies and legislative requirements.
- Assist with test data preparation, including employee test scenarios covering various pay groups, earnings, and time entry types.
- Support parallel payroll runs to compare results between legacy and Workday system
- Participate in cross-functional data reconciliation and audit activities to confirm payroll accuracy.
- Document test results, provide feedback, and contribute to continuous improvement of test processes.
- Maintain confidentiality and data integrity throughout all testing and implementation phases.
Go Live Support
- Support go-live readiness activities and post-implementation validation of live payroll results.
Qualifications:
Education & Experience:
- Diploma or degree in Accounting, Human Resources, or a related field.
- 3+ years of payroll processing experience in a medium to large organization.
- Experience supporting a Workday Payroll and/or Time Tracking implementation strongly preferred.
- Working knowledge of payroll legislation and compliance standards (e.g., CRA, employment standards, provincial regulations).
- Workday HCM/Payroll certification or prior Workday project experience is nice to have.
- Experience with system testing, UAT coordination, or data validation.
- Knowledge of integration testing between Time Tracking and Payroll modules.
Skills & Competencies:
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with high attention to detail.
- Ability to interpret and test complex payroll scenarios.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel and comfortable working with large datasets.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Collaborative team player able to work effectively with cross-functional partners.
- Strong sense of accountability and commitment to accuracy and deadlines.
