POSITION SUMMARY:

The Recreational Therapist will work with diverse populations to use recreation and other leisure-based interventions to address the assessed needs of clients to enhance psychological and physical health, recovery and well-being. Under the direct supervision of the Rehabilitation Manager, the Recreational Therapist will assess, plan, implement, and evaluate client involvement in programs and all recreation programs to ensure optimal benefits are being met. The position is a day shift (8:00 am – 4:00 pm), Part Time role, but the hours are flexible; goal is to meet the needs of our clients.

Hours: 20-22 hours per week

Position Type: Hybrid (In person and Virtual)

Status: Part Time, 1 year contract

Responsibilities:

·       Identify information necessary to be collected during therapeutic recreation assessment.

·       Communicate therapeutic recreation assessment results with the client, family, key support networks and treatment team.

·       Identify measurable, client-centered goals based on assessment results and Implement a client-centered approach to program development.

·       Incorporate data derived from the therapeutic recreation assessment into program delivery.

·       Interpret and apply agency evaluation protocols accurately into therapeutic recreation service delivery.

·       Assist clients to seek, support, and develop appropriate partnerships with a range of community service providers.

·       Provide intervention in a variety of community settings and/or involve the community within the client’s environment.

·       Systematically identify, analyze, evaluate, eliminate, or reduce risk to client, colleagues, public and self

Requirements:

·       Bachelor’s degree in Therapeutic Recreation - Certified Therapeutic Recreation

·       In good standings with the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification (NCTRC)

·       Be a professional member, in good standing, with Therapeutic Recreation Ontario (TRO)

·       1-2 years recent related experience

·       Current CPR and First Aid

·       Experience working with LTC level clients (ie. medical and social needs)

·       Ability to lift up to 25 kilograms and frequent movement and bending
